NLRC4 ( English NLR family, CARD domain containing 4 ) is a cytosolic protein , a Nod-like receptor from the NOD subfamily, a product of the NLRC4 gene. Gene cloned in 2001. [1] Plays a role in the activation of apoptosis .

Functions
Plays a role in the activation of caspase-1 in response to bacterial pathogens ( lipopolysaccharide , flagellin , PrgJ).
Structure
The mature protein consists of 1024 amino acids , the molecular weight is 116.2 kDa . The molecule includes a CARD domain, a NACHT domain with an ATP binding site, and 14 LRR ( leucine- enriched) repeats.
As a result of alternative splicing , 4 isoforms are formed.
Interacts through CARD-domains with ASC, NOD2 , BCL10, NALP1 , caspase-1 and CARD15 . [2]
