Square named after Bogdan Khmelnitsky (Chernihiv)

In 2011, the Chernihiv City Council allocated funds for the reconstruction of the square (according to the plan developed in 2005), which should be completed by Euro 2012 ^{[1] [2]} . The total cost of the project is 7.5 million hryvnias ^[3] . But the reconstruction project in full was not implemented ^[4] . Although the green spaces have undergone changes ^[5] . In May 2017, a monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky was unfolded 180 degrees - with his back to Moscow and facing Europe. Now the hetman is facing the church, the theater and the central square of Chernihiv. So more than 60 years ago, its authors conceived. “Opposite the monument was a party hill. As you know, the monument could not stand with its back to the Gorky party, let’s say so, ”says historian Alexander Bodnar. Therefore, the Communists forced the authors of the project to change the angle. They decided not to touch the pedestal of the monument. Otherwise, the chronology of Khmelnitsky’s battles depicted on the monument, which the authors conceived, will fail. They decided to leave this feature so that the guides had something interesting to tell tourists. The monument itself was updated and painted in dark golden color. ^[6]

Located on the territory of the Old Russian Suburb between the streets of Getman Polubotka and Shevchenko, as well as Mstislavskaya and Red Square. Pyatnitskaya Church and a monument to Bogdan Khmelnitsky are located on the territory of the square.

The square has the shape of an irregular rectangle. Park alleys are covered with asphalt.

Deciduous and coniferous trees are mainly represented by linden, oak, chestnut and spruce, respectively.
