She began acting in films at the age of 14 - “La moglie giapponese” (1968, dir. Gian Luigi Polidoro ). She gained international fame after playing the role of Apollonia Vitelli Corleone, wife of Michael Corleone in the famous film “The Godfather ” by Francis Ford Coppola (1972). After 1992, she did not act in films.
Personal life
Stefanelli married actor and director Michele Placido , with whom she starred in several films, including in 1975 in the erotic drama "Family Sins" (Peccati Famiglia). They had three children - Michelangelo, Violante and Brenno. Two of them chose the acting profession - Violante Placido [2] and Brenno Placido (known under the pseudonym Marco Brenno). They divorced in 1994. After their divorce, Stefanelli and her children lived for a short time in London [3] . In 2006, and then in 2008, a rumor appeared on the Internet that Stefanelli had died [4] [5] [6] .
Career
Cinema and television Before appearing in The Godfather in 1972, Stefanelli played small supporting roles in many Italian films of famous Italian directors. In 1972, she appeared in the German television film Die Sonne angreifen (Attacks of the Sun). In the same year, she received the role of Apollonia Vitelli-Corleone in the film The Godfather, directed by Francis Ford Coppola . Although she was only sixteen years old when filming began, and only seventeen when the film was released, Stefanelli appeared nude in the film [7] . Her character was revealed only in 1977 in the series "The Godfather: Saga." Stefanelli abandoned her career in Hollywood to avoid monotonous characters [8] and continued her career in Italy. In 1973, she starred in the Spanish film "Best Mayor, Friend," directed by Rafael Gil . The following year, Stefanelli appeared on the TV series Moses ( Moses the Lawgiver ), directed by Gianfranco De Bosio. She later played several roles in many Italian films, including Peccati in Famiglia (Family Scandal) , an erotic drama in which she starred with her husband Michele Placido, and in Francesco Rosie's film “ Tre Fratelli ” ( Three Brothers ). In 1992, after the appearance in the film Michele Placido " Le amiche del cuore " ( Close Friends ), Stefanelli ended her acting career.
Entrepreneurship After ending her acting career in 1992, Stefanelli currently owns a chain of fashion stores in Rome called Simo Bloom, where she designs bags and shoes [6] [9] [10] .
