Three rounds before the end of the championship, the title was secured by Fluminense, beating Palmeiras 3-2. This defeat sent the champion in the number of victories in the Brazilian championships to Serie B. Moreover, Palmeiras won the Brazil Cup in the middle of the year and in 2013 represented the country in the Libertadores Cup as a club of the second division.

Series C
The format of the championship has changed. 20 clubs were divided into 2 groups of 10 teams. A two-round tournament was held (18 rounds). The 4 best teams reached the quarter finals. The winners of the two-match confrontation received a ticket to Serie B for 2013. Further, the champion of the Series C 2012 was also identified through the Olympic system.
The Brazilian Championship in Serie C was held from July 16 to December 2, 2012.
Club C became the champion of the Oeste club, beating Ikasu in the finals (0-0 away, 2-0 at home). Also in the B Series 2013 came the semi-finalists - “Chapecoens” and “Paysandu”.
Serie C left the series D 2013, participating in the last places in their preliminary groups: Santo Andre , Cuiaba , Tupi and Guarani Gathered .

D Series
40 teams were divided into 8 groups of 5 each. After the completion of the two-round tournament, 16 teams that took first and second places in the groups played in the two -match playoffs . The four teams in the D Series semi-finals secured their participation in Serie C for the next season. These teams were Baraunas , KRAK , Mogi-Mirin , Sampaio Correa . In the final, Sampaio Correa defeated KRAK in two matches (1: 1 away, 2: 0 at home) and became the champion of Series D 2012. By an additional indicator, the third place in the season was taken by Baraunas.
Series D was held from May 26 to October 21, 2012.
