Career
Conrad Wolfram founded Wolfram Research Europe Ltd. [1] in 1991, where he holds the position of managing director to this day [2] . In 1996, he also became director [3] of Wolfram Research , Inc. strategic and international development, which made him responsible for Wolfram Research Asia Ltd., and for public relations, including the website wolfram.com.
Wolfram Research was founded by his brother [4] Stephen Wolfram , the creator of Mathematica and Wolfram Alpha [5] .
Conrad Wolfram led the work on changing how the Mathematica system is used, from a purely computer system to a tool for development and deployment, [6] [7] facilitating the development of technologies such as the Mathematica Player family and web Mathematica, and promoting great automation within the system [ 8] . He also led a company focusing on interactive publishing technology, the declared purpose of which was to “make creating new applications as common as creating new documents” [9] arguing that “if a picture is worth a thousand words, then interactive a document is worth a thousand pictures ” [10] . These technologies came together in the form of CDF (Computed Document Format) [11] .
Konrad Wolfram also served on the IMS Conference Founding Committee.
Math Education Reform
Conrad Wolfram is a prominent supporter of the reform of mathematical education, which will increase the use of information technology [12] [13] [14] , and is also the founder of the portal computerbasedmath.org . Channel 4 News, a British television station, quoted his statement: “In some cases, it is important to do the calculations manually, but such cases are only a small part. In other cases, it should be understood that students should use a computer, as is the case everywhere in the real world ” [15] . In an interview with The Guardian, he described manual computing for using computers as “democratizing special skills.” [16]
In 2009, he made a presentation on educational reform at the TEDx conference in the EU Parliament [17] [18] , as well as at the TED Global 2010 conference, where he argued that “mathematics should be more practical and conceptual, and less mechanical” [19 ] , and that "calculations are the principle of mathematics - a way to achieve the goal."
He is a member of the Informatics Committee of the Advisory Board at Kings College London . [20]
