Jaroslav Slavik ( Slovakian. Jaroslav Slavík , January 28, 1976 , Poprad , Prešov Region ) is a Slovak luge who played for the Slovak national team from 1990 to 2006. Participant of two winter Olympic games, winner of the European Championship bronze medal, multiple winner of the national championship.

Biography

Yaroslav Slavik was born on January 28, 1976 in the city of Poprad , the Prešov Region . He began to actively engage in luge at the age of eleven, in 1990 he was selected for the national team and began to take part in various international starts. In the 2000/01 season he made his debut at the adult World Cup, taking the sixteenth place in the overall standings, in addition, for the first time he participated in the races of the adult world championship, showing on the Canadian Calgary circuit the eighteenth result in the men's singles program and the tenth in the mixed teams competitions. Thanks to a series of successful performances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , where he subsequently finished sixteenth. Among other things, at the European Championships in German Altenberg was the ninth.

In 2003, Slavik, together with a mixed Slovak team, took fourth place in the European championship in the Latvian Sigulda, came to finish sixth in the single player program, and after completing all the cup stages, he was placed in the world ranking of the strongest sledders on the twelfth line. At the 2004 World Championships in Japan, Nagano was the fifteenth among singles and fifth in mixed teams, while at the European championship in Oberhof in Germany he managed to get to third place and received a bronze medal. He could have won another bronze in the team competition, but the Slovaks did not quite reach the podium, remaining fourth. The cup cycle ended with the thirteenth place of the overall standings.

At the 2005 World Championships in American Park City, Yaroslav Slavik closed the top ten in the standings of singles and placed in seventh place in the team ranking. In the World Cup, as in the Challenge Cup, he reached the ninth position. A year later he came eighth in the European championship in German Altenberg and was sixth in team competitions. I went to compete at the 2006 Olympic Games in Turin , planned to compete for medals there, but in the end I performed extremely unsuccessfully - only thirty-third. Immediately after this start, Slavik decided to end his career as a professional athlete, giving way to young Slovak sleigh riders. Now lives with his family in the city of Vishne Gaga , in his free time he likes to ride a motorcycle, play hockey and listen to music.
