Career
Vitesse
Alexander Buttner first appeared on the field as part of the first Vitesse team on March 15, 2008 in a away match against Twente . Replacing in the 6th minute, Buttner was sent off for 2 yellow cards [2] . Despite the unsuccessful debut, starting from the next 2008/09 season, Buttner became one of the team’s main players.
In May 2011, he extended the contract with Vitesse for another two years [3] . In July 2012, Vitesse agreed with the English club Southampton to transfer the midfielder to the Saints camp [4] . On July 9, it was announced that the transition might not take place [5] , since the unnamed “third party”, which also owns part of the rights to the player, demanded certain percentages for the transition [6] [7] . Buttner’s agent later stated that his client intends to appeal to arbitration [8] . On August 19, the Dutch media announced the possible transfer of Buttner to English Manchester United [9] [10] .
Manchester United
On August 21, Buttner moved to Manchester United , signing a five-year contract with the club [11] . His official debut for the club took place on September 15, 2012, when he left the starting lineup in the match of the fourth round of the Premier League against Wigan ; Buttner scored a goal and an assist in the same match [12] .
Dynamo
On June 28, 2014, it was officially confirmed that Buttner moved to Dynamo Moscow . The amount of transfer amounted to 4.4 million pounds , but can grow up to 5.6 million pounds depending on the results of the player’s performances [13] . He made his debut with Dynamo on July 31 in the Europa League match against Hapoel from Kiryat Shmona, ending 1-1. August 21 scored his first goal for Dynamo, equalizing the score in the Europa League match with Omonia .
In December 2016, he terminated the contract with the club that played in the FNL championship . [14]
Anderlecht
On February 1, 2016, Buttner transferred to the Belgian Anderlecht on a leasehold basis (with option to purchase). Soon the club showed interest in redeeming the contract [15] , but did not use this right.
Team
In 2008, Buttner spent one match for the youth national team of the Netherlands (under 19) and was called up to the youth team , for which he played in 8 games.
On May 7, 2012, Bert van Marwijk included Buttner in the expanded list of candidates for a trip to the European Championship 2012 as part of the Netherlands national team [16] .
