Stratiomyomorpha

Stratiomyomorpha (lat.) Is an infraorder of dipterans insects, which includes three living families: Stratiomyidae (2651 species, 375 genera), Xylomyidae (138 species, 4 genera), Pantophthalmidae (20 species, 2 genera), as well as an extinct family Zhangsolvidae [1] . Their larvae are usually saprophagous ; many live in rotten wood and soil [2] [3] .

Phylogeny

The infraorder Stratiomyomorpha forms a monophyletic treasure with Tabanomorpha + Xylophagomorpha , and all together to the infraorder Muscomorpha (all other flies). The clade Xylomyidae + Stratiomyidae, sister to the Pantophthalmidae family [4] [3], is distinguished inside. In addition to Zhangsolvidae , the extinct order Stratiomyomorpha also sometimes includes the extinct Archisargidae family [5] .
