Theater History

O. Bergonye acquired the land at the intersection of Kadetskaya Street (later Fundukleevskaya, later Lenin Street, now Bogdan Khmelnitsky Street No. 5) and Novoelizavetinskaya Street (now Pushkinskaya Street ). In September 1874, a partially-wooden circus building was built here. In February 1875, a two-story stone building was erected (architect N. Nikolaev ). In December of that year, the premises were rented by Prince VD Obolensky for the Al-Qazar circus theater.

In September 1878, Bergonier built another two-story house; in the inside there was a theater, on the second floor - the Lyon Hotel. Since 1878, various entrepreneurs have rented the theater: Russian playwright N. N. Savin and his opera troupe, theater groups S. S. Ivanenko, I. Ya. Setov. In October - December 1882, the troupe of Grigory Ashkarenko performed with the participation of Mark Kropyvnytsky (a memorial plaque to Kropyvnytsky M.L. was staged), in 1883 - the theater troupe of M.P. Staritsky . In 1883, the building was rebuilt as a drama theater. Beginning in 1884, for seven years, the Moscow Society of Dramatic Actors , headed by M. M. Solovtsov, came to the Bergonier Theater on tour, and in 1891 he founded the entreprise-traveling Solovtsov Theater.

From December 20, 1897, constant mass demonstrations of films began in the theater. Italian opera companies toured in the theater with the participation of Mazini , Modest, Gamba, Arismondi, Aramburo. The theater management continued the practice of inviting ante-prone and traveling theater troupes, since Nikolai Solovtsov moved with his troupe to his new theater, which he called the Solovtsov Drama Theater.

In October 1917, a joint meeting of the Kiev Council of Workers 'and Soldiers' Deputies and representatives of the garrison, trade unions and factory committees, which decided on an armed uprising and elected a revolutionary committee, was held at the Teatro Bergonye. In 1917-1918, the Miniature Theater, headed by the Russian actor P. M. Miloradovich, worked in the Bergony Theater, in 1917 the performances of the "Young Theater" took place, in 1919 - the Theater of the Red Army.

In April 1919, the theater was transferred to the First Theater of the Ukrainian Soviet Republic named after Shevchenko, who worked in it until the winter of 1923. During the years 1922-1925, other theaters were located here (mostly mobile), in particular, in 1924 - the Berezil Theater, which was headed by Les Kurbas . In 1925, a decision was made on its partial restoration, which was completed in 1926.
