Double (monetary unit)

Double ( FR. and eng. Double ) - a changeable currency of Guernsey from 1830 to 1966, ¹ ⁄ ₁₉₂₀ Guernsey pounds . The name comes from the French double deniers (double denier ).

Coinage in duplicate started in 1830. Until 1921, a French franc was in circulation on the island. The pound sterling was also a legal means of payment, but until 1921 it was not equal to the Gerintsian pound. The double was equal to 1/80 French franc (that is, it was equivalent to the liard ), 1/1920 Guernsey pound and 1/2040 pound sterling. Penny Guernsey (until 1956, existed only as a counting unit, was not issued in the form of coins or banknotes) was equal to 8 duplicates.

In 1921, the French franc was withdrawn from circulation, the Guernsey pound equated to the pound sterling. The double has become equal to 1/1920 Guernsey pound and pound sterling.

After 1959, coins were minted only using the proof technology. In 1966, the coinage in duplicate was discontinued ^{[1] [2]} .
