Biography

First achieved success in the international arena in 1974 , winning a bronze medal at the World Junior Championships in Rio de Janeiro , and in the same year won second place at the World Student Championships in Brussels . In 1975 he became the second in the international tournament in Tbilisi among adults and the European champion among juniors in Turku . In 1976, he became the champion of the Dutch Open tournament, became the champion of Europe in the individual championship in Kiev and won the Tbilisi tournament. In 1979, he again became the first in the international tournament in Tbilisi in the absolute category and the third in the category up to 95 kilograms, became the European champion in the team event, won the Dutch Open tournament and remained the third in the Tournoi de Paris tournament. After winning the Games of the peoples of the USSR, he went to the World Championships in Paris , where he became a world champion. In addition, he won the 1979 USSR Championship in the absolute category.

In 1980, before the Olympics, he won second place in the championship of friendly armies and second place in the USSR championship

He played at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow , fought in the category up to 95 kilograms. In its category 23 athletes fought, divided into two groups. Competitions were conducted according to the system with a knockout after two defeats.

In this system in the first round for example: wrestler "A" wins wrestler "B", and wrestler "C" wrestler "G". In the second round there are winners "A" and "B", while "A" wins the bout. In this case “G” (as the loser to the loser) drops out of the tournament, and “B” (as the loser to the winner) meets “C” in the so-called consolation fight and the loser also leaves the tournament. If wrestler “A” continues to win fights, then behind him he moves to the final stage and “B”, winning wrestler “A” in consoling fights of losers. If “A” loses, then “B” leaves the tournament. If "A" reaches the final, then "B" will participate in the fight for the third place with the lost wrestler "A" in the semifinal. Thus, the possibility that strong fighters were eliminated in the first bouts is eliminated.

There was considerable competition in the category: four participants immediately claimed the first place: Robert Van de Valle ( Belgium ), Jean-Luc Rouge ( France ), Dietmar Lorenz ( GDR ) and Tengiz Khubuluri. In 1/16 of the tournament, the Soviet wrestler defeated Dariusz Novakovski ( Poland ), in 1/8 against Daniel Radu ( Romania ), in 1/4 defeated one of the favorites of Dietmar Lorenz and in the semifinal defeated Jose Tornnes ( Cuba ).

In the finals of the games Tengiz Khubuluri met with Robert van de Valle . The fight was very tense and the Belgian wrestler won only coca from Khubuluri, which was obtained as a result of Sido’s remarks to the Soviet wrestler for going beyond the tatami . [one]

After the Olympic Games, the wrestler becomes the silver medalist of the European Championship (1981), champion of the USSR (1982), wins two international tournaments ( Potsdam 1981, Warsaw 1982). At the 1982 European Championships in Rostock, only 5 remained. [2]
