Content
AppearanceBody length 40 cm, tail 20-22 cm. Plumage is bright green. The throat, chin, cheeks and forehead are yellow; a wide transverse strip of red color runs through the throat. The color of the females is more dull, they do not have a red strip on the throat. Beak of red or red-yellow color. The iris is orange.
DistributionIt lives in Southeast Australia .
LifestyleInhabits eucalyptus forests growing along the banks of rivers, as well as gardens and parks . They feed on the seeds of wild and cultivated plants: nettles , shepherds bags , thistles , geraniums , wheat , alfalfa and others, as well as nectar of flowering eucalyptus trees .
ReproductionIn clutch there are 4-5 eggs that the female incubates. After 3 weeks, chicks appear. At seven weeks of age, they fly out of the nest, but for another 14 days they need to be fed by their parents.
ContentsThese beautiful parrots are popular with nature lovers. In Russia, there are few of them yet, but Western lovers easily breed them in aviaries or large cages. Taken young, the parrots are easily tamed and learn to speak a few words, whistle simple melodies and imitate the voices of birds and animals.
