Isuzu , who took part in the design of the pickup truck, began production of their car, called the i-Series, at the end of 2005. The Chevrolet Colorado was developed jointly by GM's North American and Brazilian divisions and Isuzu of Japan, and was based on the Hummer H3 GMT 355 platform. Produced in factories in Shreveport, Louisiana and Rayong , Thailand .

Colorado / Canyon had automatic or mechanical transmissions, as well as rear-wheel or four-wheel drive and 3 types of cabs: the usual 2-door, extended 2-door and extended 4-door. The cars as standard were equipped with a 2.8-liter inline four, but had access to the optional Z71 package with a 3.8-liter engine, which was equipped with a 4-speed automatic. This package later disappeared and was replaced by LT2 and LT3 trim levels.

The ZQ8 version had a lower “sporty” suspension, more adapted to the asphalt, with standard 17-inch wheels, a bumper and a radiator grille in body color. This version had an Xtreme subversion with modified front and rear bumpers, side skirts, a radiator grill, head lights and 18-inch wheels. She was the successor to the same version of the Chevrolet S-10 .

In 2007, Colorado underwent a facelift and received new engines - a 2.9-liter unit and a 3.7-liter inline five, new paint colors - deep ruby ​​(Sonoma red for Canyon), tempo blue (sports blue for Canyon) and stately blue (midnight blue for Canyon), as well as new rims and wheels. The LT and LTZ trim levels also had minor changes to the grille and interior; LS equipment has changed even less and has become similar to the facelift TrailBlazer 2005-2006. In addition, Colorado and Canyon nameplates appeared on the front doors, in the corporate style of GM. In 2009, the car changed again and received another 1 additional engine - a 5.3-liter V8. In 2010, the nameplates on the side doors were removed.

Colorado / Canyon sold 163.204 units in 2005 in the USA, which exceeded sales of their competitor Ford Ranger by almost 35%, and they also slightly lagged behind the new rival Toyota Tacoma - by 3.3%. However, in 2006, Ford pickups became more popular and Ranger sales were up 27.5%, while Tacoma Colorado and Canyon were already almost 34% behind. One of Canyon 2005 was used by Senate candidate Scott Brown and became widely known in the United States due to TV commercials.

Despite the fact that only an elongated cab was available for the LT configuration, only a car with this configuration had 6 seats, unlike other configurations of GM pickups.

Security

The Colorado (with an extended 2-door cab) passed the IIHS (Insurance Institute for Highway Safety) safety test and was rated “good” in the front collision, while the same pickup with an extended 4-door cab was rated “acceptable”. The car withstood a side impact on “bad”, as it did not have side curtain airbags. They appeared only in 2010, but the lateral trunk airbags did not appear. A Colorado with an elongated 4-door cabin received a rating of 3, the rest - 5.

The second generation Chevrolet Colorado was introduced in 2011 at the Bangkok Motor Show ^[1] , but the first photos appeared on the network shortly before its appearance. Later it was again shown at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 2011 ^[2] along with the new generation Chevrolet Malibu . The US version was shown in Los Angeles in 2013, it has a different body design and a different instrument panel. The car was the first to receive a diesel engine among mid-sized American pickups. GMC Canyon was featured in Detroit in 2014.
