Biography
Born on September 14, 1923 in the city of Glazov, now in the Udmurt Republic, in a working class family. Russian. Education is incomplete secondary. In the 30s he lived in the city of Salekhard (now the administrative center of the Yamal-Nenets Autonomous District), where his father was appointed engineer of the newly created Salekhard timber mill.
In the Red Army, he was called up by the Salekhardsky City Military Commissariat in 1941. In 1942 he graduated from the Tyumen Military Infantry School. In the battles of World War II from July 1942 . He fought on the Voronezh, 1st Ukrainian fronts, participated in the Battle of Kursk, in forcing the Desna and Dnieper rivers, proved to be a skillful and courageous commander.
In the battles of September 17, 1942 in the area of the village of Kaveriya, Voronezh Region, being the commander of a blocking group, he was one of the first to break into the trenches of the enemy, throw bunkers with grenades and destroy five enemy soldiers.
During the breakthrough of the enemy’s defense line on January 26, 1943, in the area of the village of Terduny, Kursk Region, V. M. Egorov, with the soldiers of the unit entrusted to him, in pursuit of the retreating enemy, personally destroyed five enemy soldiers. In the battle for the village of Manturovo, Veniamin Egorov with his company restrained the repeated attacks of the many times superior forces of the Nazis. At the time of the German offensive, the calculation of the light machine gun was disabled, Egorov personally took the machine gun and opened fire on the enemy, destroying from ten to twenty enemy soldiers and officers.
For the courage, heroism, skillful command of the company by order of the 167th Infantry Division No. 018 / n dated May 8, 1943 V. N. Egorov was awarded the Order of the Red Star.
Veniamin Egorov particularly distinguished himself in the battles for the liberation of the city of Kiev .
Skillfully managing the unit entrusted to him, Captain V. M. Yegorov, on November 3, 1943, at a critical moment in the battle for the Pushcha-Voditsa village (now within the borders of Kiev), raised his company to attack, and was ahead of the company’s battle formation. He was the first to reach Hitler’s trenches, engaging in hand-to-hand combat with the enemy, destroying the enemy with fire from personal weapons. In this fierce battle, the 20-year-old officer died the death of the brave. He was buried in Kiev at the Pushcha-Voditsky cemetery .
By a decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of June 3, 1944, for the exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown to this, Captain Veniamin Nikolayevich Egorov was posthumously awarded the title Hero of the Soviet Union.
