Most of the water area is located on the territory of the Jaunaluksna volost , except for the southern tip related to the city of Aluksne [8] [4] . The border of the Ziemera parish runs along the western shore of the lake, and the Markalne volost [8] [2] along the northern shore. The total area of ​​the lake is 15.57 km² [1] , of which 15.437 km² falls on the water surface [2] . The average depth is 7.1 m, the deepest point (15.2 m) is located in the northern part of the lake. The islands occupy 13.2 hectares, the largest - the island of Pilssala ( Latvian. Pilssala ) with an area of ​​9.9 hectares, on which are located the ruins of a castle fortress built in 1342 [2] . The lake basin is 28.4 km² [1] .
