Amnatos [2] ( Greek Αμνάτος [1] ) is a village in Greece on the island of Crete , 17 km southeast of Rethymnon , at an altitude of 320 m [3] . Enters into the community (dim) of Rethymnon in the peripheral unit of Rethymnon in the periphery of Crete . The population of 156 inhabitants according to the 2011 census [1] .

Amnatos is a traditional settlement ( ΦΕΚΔ 728/1995) [4] . In Amnatos are houses of the Venetian period [5] .
Amnatos may have been inhabited during the Minoan civilization , it is believed that the name Amnatos is of Minoan origin [6] . Turks and Venetians occupied Amnatos [7] . The houses of the Venetian period are located in Amnatos: an important attraction is the “Door to Amnatos” ( Το θύρωμα της Αμνάτου ) with the inscription INITIUM SAPIENTE TIMOR DOMINI in Latin [8] .
There is also a folk museum. On the square of the village stands a marble bust of Harikliya Daskalaki ( Χαρίκλεια Δασκαλάκη ), the heroine of the Holocaust of Arkadi [9] .
