History

Central Tourist House, 2017

The tourist house was built in 1980 by order of the All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions (AUCCTU) and the Central Council for Tourism and Excursions . The construction lasted eight years due to the high complexity of the project, which was developed by architects Vladimir Kuzmin, Egor Gorkin, N. Nilov, E. Zorin, V. Kolesnikov, A. Kolchin and A. Tyabin [5] [6] [7] .

The opening of the hotel, dedicated to the Moscow Summer Olympics , took place in 1980 . The hotel accommodated foreign tourists who arrived in the capital, and also served official events and delegations [4] [1] . In the 1990s, the influx of tourists declined and the hotel was reoriented into a mid-range business hotel [2] . On July 17, 1992, the former All-Union Central Council of Trade Unions transferred to the Federation of Independent Trade Unions of Russia 690 tourist and sightseeing facilities, including the Tourist House, which belonged to the federation until 2007 [8] .

In 2007-2009, the hotel underwent reconstruction: renovated and expanded the number of rooms, renovated part of the hall, one of the four restaurants, three conference rooms, replaced the elevators, updated the confectionery shop, invited the chefs of the Holiday Inn hotel chain to the hotel [9] . In 2009, the former Central Tourist House opened under the name "Astrus" - a "new star" [10] .

In 2010, an incident occurred at the hotel - on the night of December 9, a paratrooper jumped from the roof of the building, but caught the wires on the dome and hung [11] .

The hotel was originally built with the ability to host events. So, in April 1999, the hotel hosted the exhibition "Euromonitor" and "Information Market" [12] . In October 2010, the scientific and technical conference "Microtechnology in Space" was held, which was attended by Yuri Urlichich, GLONASS General Designer [13] .

In December 2018, the Astrus Hotel was awarded four stars of category A.
