Biography

Maharbek Tuganov was born in 1881 (according to other sources in 1879), in the village of Dur-Dur, Terek region (now North Ossetia ), in the family of the botanist Safar Aslanangerievich Tuganov. At the age of eight he entered a private boarding house. In 1891 he entered the Real School of Vladikavkaz. In 1900 he was sent to St. Petersburg for admission to the Mining Institute, but did not enter the Institute. In 1901 he entered the Imperial Academy of Arts (workshop of Ilya Repin ). In 1907 he founded an art studio in Vladikavkaz. In 1920 , he was appointed head of the art and agitation department of TerKav ROSTA. In 1926-1930 taught academic drawing at the Pedagogical College of the city of Ordzhonikidze. In 1930 he moved to the Georgian SSR, to the city of Stalinir (now Tskhinval ), where he organized an art picture gallery at the Museum of Local History, worked as the main artist of the South Ossetian State Drama Theater. Last years he lived in Ordzhonikidze. He died in 1952, was buried in the necropolis of the Ossetian Church .
