RangeThis is a deep-water little-studied species, known for its only holotype, which is an immature male 41.7 cm long, caught at a depth of 537 m in the South China Sea.
DescriptionNakaya and Sato in 1999 divided the genus Apristurus into three groups: longicephalus (2 species), brunneus (20 species) and spongiceps (10 species). The Chinese black cat shark belongs to the brunneus group, the representatives of which are characterized by the following features: short, wide muzzle, from 13 to 22 spiral intestinal valves , the upper labial groove is much longer than the lower; intermittent supraorbital sensory canal.
BiologyThe diet consists of crustaceans , squid and small fish. Propagates by laying eggs enclosed in a hard capsule. The size of the capsule is 5-6.8 cm in length and 2.5-2.9 in width. At the front end of the capsule there are two fibrous filaments, at the rear end there are also two small processes at the corners. Most likely, these threads serve to attach the capsule to the bottom.
Human InteractionData to assess the state of conservation of the species is not enough [2] .
