Biography
Sonam was born on June 9, 1985 in Chembur, Mumbai [1] . The eldest daughter of the famous Indian actor Anil Kapoor and former model Sunita Kapoor [2] , granddaughter of producer Surinder Kapoor, niece of actors Sanjay Kapoor and producers Boni Kapoor and Sandip Marvah. She has a sister Ray and brother Harshvandhan. Her cousins Arjun Kapoor and Ranvir Singh are also actors.
Sonam attended Arya Vidya Mandir School in Juhu, and then entered the United World College of South East Asia in Singapore , where she studied for 2 years [2] . She also studied political science and economics at the University of East London . The actress speaks Hindi , Urdu , Marathi , Punjabi and English.
On May 8, 2018, Sonam married a friend and businessman Anand Ahuju, whom she had been dating for 4 years [3] .
Career
Before starting her career as an actress, Sonam worked with Sanjay Lila Bhansali along with Ranbir Kapoor as an assistant during the filming of The Last Hope [2] .
Her debut was the 2007 Bhansali film, Beloved , based on White Nights , where Ranbir Kapoor was her partner. The film failed in India, but was a resounding success abroad . Sonam was nominated for several well-known Indian film awards, including the Filmfare Award for Best Actress, and won the Stardust Awards as “The Superstar of Tomorrow.” [1] In 2009, she released her second film, Delhi-6 , which also failed at the box office, but was recognized by critics. It was shown at the Venice and Dubai film festivals. For her role in the film, Sonam was nominated at the Asian Film Awards as Best Debutant of the Year.
In 2010, she starred in the movie Punit Malhotra and Dharma Production's " I Hate Love Stories " along with Imran Khan . The film was a resounding success in India and abroad, and was the first commercial hit in Sonam's career. Her second film in 2010, Aisha , was an adaptation of Jane Austen 's Emma . The film grossed average revenue, but Sonam received positive reviews about his game. However, praise from critics did not stop her from receiving the Golden Kela Awards for her worst female role [4] .
Its first release in 2011 was the film " Thank you ." The film was criticized, but gathered a middle box office. Her second film, The Seasons, failed at the box office, but was recognized by critics and shown at the Chicago Film Festival . In 2012, Sonam released only one film, Players , a remake of Italian Robbery , some of which was shot in Russia. The film failed at the box office and was rated low by critics.
In 2013, Sonam got two films: “ Run, Milka, Run ” with Farhan Akhtar , who became the best film of the year according to Filmfare, and “ Desperately in love ” with Dhanush , who brought her the first Filmfare Award for Best Actress [5 ] .
Sonam also starred in the video of the British band Coldplay and singer Beyoncé for the song “ Hymn for the Weekend ” ( A Head Full of Dreams album). The presentation of the clip took place on January 29, 2016. Sleep can be seen at the end of this clip when she runs down the hill in a colored sari and throws flower petals into the air [6] .
In the same year, the film " Nirja " was released, in which she played the role of the stewardess Nirji Bhanot , who died protecting the passengers of the aircraft from terrorists. The film was a commercial success and critics praise, and also brought the actress Filmfare Award for best actress in the opinion of critics [7] and a special mention of the National Film Award [8] .
In 2018, three films were released with Sonam: Veere Di Wedding , her partners in which were Karina Kapoor , Swara Bhaskar and aspiring actress Shikha Talsania [9] , “Padman” with Akshay Kumar [10] , which received mixed reviews from critics, as well as in a biography film about Sanjay Dutt , where she played the girlfriend of the protagonist, whose image is based on the personality of actress Tina Munim [11] .
