Geographical position

It is located on the banks of the river of the same name at the top of the Chaun Bay . Initially, the village was located at the mouth of the Chaun River, where in 1934 the Chaun Cultural Base was founded. In the 1950s he was transferred to the mouth of Rytkuchi. Distance to the city ​​of district significance - 554 km.

Transport

The village is connected with the administrative center of the district by a 120-kilometer winter car, the travel time is more than two hours. Since 2016, engineering surveys have been carried out along the route of the proposed year-round dirt road. During the summer navigation, communication with the village is carried out by river.

From May to December, flights of the Mi-8 helicopter with a frequency of 1-4 times a month are carried out in Rytkuchi [9] .

Economics and social infrastructure

The main activity of local residents is reindeer herding and fishing. In the village there is a downhole point of the municipal enterprise SHP "Chaunskoye".

Not far from the village was the world's only high-latitude specialized field helminthological station [10] .

In the village there are: a secondary school, a branch of the Pevek children's art school, a kindergarten "Rucheek", a local hospital, a communications center, an ethnographic museum, a library, a House of Culture, a shop.

Since 1944, the meteorological station M-2 Ust-Chaun has been operating in the village [11] .

Culture

Rytkuchi is famous for the fact that traditions and rites of the Chukchi people are carefully preserved here. The creator of the local national ensemble "Yogattet" ( Chukot. - "Northern Lights"), storyteller, performer of songs and dances, Klavdia Sergeyevna Geutval every summer, put yaranga on the outskirts of the village, lived in it, using only traditional household items, and invited her to visit all residents. Russian and foreign ethnographers and linguists often come here to study the traditional way of life and the language of the Chukchi.
