Biography
Stepan Burlachenko was born on April 16, 1914 in the village of Alekseevka (now the East Kazakhstan region of Kazakhstan ) into a peasant family. Received primary education. In 1936 - 1938 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army. He worked as a driver at the Dzhezkazgan motor transport enterprise. In January 1942 he was re-drafted into the army. Since May of that year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. By January 1945, Junior Sergeant Stepan Burlachenko was the driver of the 47th Guards Tank Brigade of the 9th Guards Tank Corps of the 2nd Guards Tank Army of the 1st Belorussian Front . Distinguished during the liberation of Poland [1] .
On January 16, 1945, Burlachenko, acting as part of the advanced detachment, replaced the outdated tank commander. In the area of the city of Zhirarduv, German artillery opened fire on the Soviet units conducting the offensive. Having completed a maneuver on the tank, Burlachenko went behind enemy lines and destroyed 6 artillery guns and 4 service mortars with fire and caterpillars. Burlachenko’s actions contributed to the successful liberation of the city [1] .
By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR dated February 27, 1945, Junior Sergeant Stepan Burlachenko was awarded the high title of Hero of the Soviet Union with the awarding of the Order of Lenin and the Gold Star medal [1] .
By the same decree, the title of Hero of the Soviet Union was awarded to the platoon commander N. V. Kutenko and the driver-mechanic A. F. Kononov [2]
After the war, the rank of foreman Burlachenko was demobilized . He worked as a driver in a motor depot in the city of Semipalatinsk, Kazakh SSR . In 1954 he joined the CPSU [1] .
Died March 22, 1989.
He was also awarded two orders of the Patriotic War of the 1st degree, the Order of the Red Star , as well as a number of medals [1] .
