Biography

Mykola Burka was born on January 17 (in a new style - 30 ) January 1917 in the village of Krymskoe (now Slavyanoserbsky district of the Luhansk region of Ukraine ) in a peasant family. He graduated from four classes of the school, worked as a switchman at Sentyanovka station. In 1938 - 1940 he served in the Workers 'and Peasants' Red Army . In 1941, he was re-drafted into the army. In 1942 he graduated from junior lieutenant courses. Since February of the same year - on the fronts of the Great Patriotic War. In 1943 he joined the CPSU (b) . By September 1943, Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Burka commanded a machine gun company of the 836th Infantry Regiment of the 240th Infantry Division of the 38th Army of the Voronezh Front . He distinguished himself during the battle of the Dnieper [1] .

On the night of September 26-27, 1943, Burka was one of the first to cross the Dnieper with his company. Having broken the enemy’s resistance, the company seized a bridgehead near the village of Lyutezh in the Vyshgorod district of the Kiev region of the Ukrainian SSR and successfully repelled German counterattacks. In one of the battles, the company of Burka repelled four German counterattacks, and destroyed enemy soldiers and officers near the company. The company’s actions ensured the success of the crossing of the entire regiment [1] .

By decree of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR of October 29, 1943, for “exemplary performance of command missions on the front of the struggle against Nazi invaders and the courage and heroism shown”, Senior Lieutenant Nikolai Burka was awarded the high rank of Hero of the Soviet Union with the Order of Lenin and a medal The Golden Star, numbered 1840 [1] .

In 1946, Burka graduated from the Shot course. In 1948, with the rank of lieutenant colonel, he was transferred to the reserve. He lived in the city of Vasilkov, Kiev region, worked as a planner at a tannery. He died on September 13, 1973 [1] .

He was also awarded the orders of Alexander Nevsky and the Red Star , two orders of the Patriotic War of the 2nd degree, as well as a number of medals [1] .
