IAR 80 ( rum. IAR 80 ) - Romanian fighter , fighter-bomber during the Second World War . The first serial fighter of the Romanian design. It was an all - metal monoplane with a closed cockpit and retractable landing gear with a tail wheel. Designed under the direction of Ion Grosu at the IAR Design Bureau. The first flight of IAR 80 took place on April 12, 1939 . In the design of the aircraft, part of the components and assemblies of the Polish fighter PZL P.24 , built on the IAR under license, was used.
