Bacon, Nathaniel

Nathaniel Bacon ( Nathaniel Bacon , 1642 or 1647-1676) is the leader of one of the first major uprisings in North America against English colonial rule.

In 1676, Planter Bacon led the Virgin Colony farmers' movement against excessive taxes and political harassment. Bacon’s squad captured and burned the city of Jamestown , forcing the governor to leave the colony. Soon died of dysentery .

After Bacon's death, an uprising due to the dispersion of rebel forces was crushed by the British troops.
