Anna Hov ( Norwegian Anne Olsdatter Hov ; January 6, 1846 , Kvikne , now part of the Tünset commune, Hedmark province - 1936 ) is a Norwegian farmer who is considered to be the inventor of the belunost cheese that has become a traditional cheese.
Anna's parents worked on the Sulbrosetra farm ( Norwegian. Solbråsetra ) in the municipality of Sør-Frun since 1851 , Anna from 10 years helped them as a milkmaid [1] . Allegedly, in 1863, it occurred to her when making soft cheese by adding sour cream to boil goat milk and cow's milk whey to increase the fat content of the finished product. Having married the farmer Thor Hov and moving to the Rustkhogo farm ( Norwegian Rusthågå ) in the neighboring municipality of Nur Fron , Anna Hov launched the production of this variety of cheese more widely, and the local merchant Ole Kungsley began to supply it for sale in the capital of Oslo . In 1908 , the Tretten company began to produce cheese according to the recipe of Anna Hov in a factory way [2] .
The changes in the cheese recipe introduced by Anna Hov led to the fact that bruinst became an important source of iron in the Norwegian national diet [3] . In addition, it is believed that the established production of brunet saved in the 1880s the agriculture of the Gudbrandsdal valley from an economic catastrophe [4] .
In 1933 , Anna Hov was awarded the silver medal as “the real inventor of the Goodbrandal cheese” [5] .
