Content
AppearanceBody length 45 cm. The main color is green with dark bordering on the edges of the feathers. The forehead and cheeks are brown. The ears are red-brown. Part of the head, chest and abdomen are purple. Olive with a blue border. The wings are green. Paramount fly-purple. Minor - with purple tips. On minor flywheels there is a cherry “mirror”. Periocular rings brown. The iris is orange. Paws and beak are gray.
DistributionIt lives on the island of Dominica ( Lesser Antilles ), is depicted on the flag of the country . Two amazons on the coat of arms of Dominica are shield holders .
LifestyleIt inhabits humid tropical selva , mountains up to an altitude of 500-1400 m above sea level.
Threats and securityIt is on the verge of extinction due to the destruction of its natural habitat, hunting and illegal capture for sale. By the end of the 20th century , there were about 100 individuals in the wild. It is under the protection program.
