Series of 1944-1945 banknotes
The first banknotes after the liberation of Poland were issued in accordance with the decree of the Polish National Liberation Committee of August 24, 1944. Initially, they were printed at the printing house of Goznak in Moscow . On these banknotes in denominations of 1 to 500 zlotys, an error was made in the explanatory inscription in Polish: in the phrase Polish.PRZYJMOWANIE WE WSZYSTKICH WYPŁATACH JEST OBOWIĄZKOWE The last word was transmitted as OBOWIĄZKOW YM . Later, banknotes with the same date began to be printed at the printing house of the People's Bank of Poland and the error was corrected.
The zloty of the governor general was exchanged at face value, but with a limit of the amount of 500 zloty for private individuals and 2000 zloty for small enterprises and organizations, funds over this amount were credited to bank accounts.
The banknotes of the first issue had a very simple design: the emblem of Poland , the name of the issuing bank (created only on January 15, 1945), explanatory inscriptions, denomination and year of printing were placed on the front side on the guilloche background, the denomination, name of the issuing bank and year of issue (for banknotes of 5, 20 and 100 zlotys). 50 pennies were printed without a serial number, for banknotes with a face value of 1 to 500 zlotys it was placed on the front side and had the format AB 123456, and for a banknote of 1000 zlotys - Ser.A 1234567.
The first banknotes of post-war Poland were forged in large volumes by counterfeiters , so the issues of 1946, 1947 and 1948 were followed by the release of 1944-1945, with a new design and better protection against counterfeiting.
In 1974, the People’s Bank of Poland issued a “reprint” of 1944 banknotes (except 50 pennies) for collectors with special serial numbers and an explanatory inscription in Polish. EMISJA PAMIĄTKOWA - ODBITA W 1974 R. Z ORYGINALNYCH KLISZ .
