Higher educational institutions of Cheboksary are represented in the capital of the Chuvash Republic by more than two dozen institutes, universities and their branches. The first higher educational institution was opened on June 10, 1930 (pedagogical institute) [1] [2] [3] [4] [5] .

Until 2011, the Cheboksary branch of the Nizhny Novgorod Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation operated [6] .

Content

Universities

  • Chuvash State University named after I.N. Ulyanova (founded August 17, 1967) is the largest university in Chuvashia, in which more than 16 thousand students study and more than 1200 teachers work. ChSU was organized by Decree of the Council of Ministers of the USSR of March 17, 1967 No. 796, decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR of August 21, 1967 No. 631 (Orders of the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the USSR of September 5, 1967 No. 574 and the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education of the RSFSR dated August 26, 1967 No. 386) on the basis of the Volga branch of the Moscow Energy Institute and the historical and philological faculty of the Chuvash State Pedagogical Institute I. Ya. Yakovleva [7] . By the Decree of the Council of Ministers of the RSFSR of November 30, 1967 No. 882, Chuvash State University was named after I. N. Ulyanov .
  • Chuvash State Pedagogical University named after I.Ya. Yakovleva , which trains about 7,500 thousand students and employs more than 500 highly qualified specialists. The university was founded on June 10, 1930 by a joint decision of the All - Russian Central Executive Committee and the Council of People's Commissars of the RSFSR as the Chuvash Pedagogical Institute. He became the successor of the Simbirsk Chuvash Practical Institute of Public Education, which functioned in 1921-1923 on the basis of the former Simbirsk Chuvash Teacher’s School, and also worked in the 1926-1930 Chuvash Department of Language and Literature at the Eastern Pedagogical Institute in Kazan [8] . Since 1958, bears the name of the outstanding Chuvash educator I. Ya. Yakovlev .

Academy

  • Chuvash State Agricultural Academy . Teaches students from September 1, 1931. The Academy was established by Decree of the Council of the People’s Commissars of the RSFSR of May 22, 1931 No. 558 as the Chuvash Agricultural Institute as a higher education institution of the People's Commissariat of the USSR . On the basis of the Regulation on the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation, approved by Decree of the Government of the Russian Federation of June 12, 2008 No. 450, and order of the Government of the Russian Federation of July 22, 2006 No. 1041-r, the Academy is under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Russian Federation.

Institutions

  • Cheboksary Cooperative Institute (founded in 1962) - a branch of the Russian University of Cooperation
  • Chuvash State Institute of Culture and Arts (founded in 2000) [9]
