Biography
Neil Nitin Mukesh was born on January 15, 1982 into a family of musicians, his father is the singer Nitin Mukesh , and his grandfather is the famous singer Mukesh Chand Mathur , who went down in history along with Mohammed Rafi , Kishor Kumar and Manna Day , as one of the great singers of Bollywood . He was named Lata Mangeshkar in honor of astronaut Neil Armstrong.
As a child, he starred in the movie in 1988, playing in the movie “The Way to Victory,” as the character of Rishi Kapoor in childhood, as well as the young character of Govinda in Jaisi Karni Waisi Bharnii.
Career
The debut of the Nile took place in the thriller Sriram Raghavan "Johnny the Traitor" (2007). His portrayal of the rogue and liar Johnny earned positive reviews from critics [1] and earned him a Filmfare Award nomination for best male debut . Taran Adarsh from Bollywood Hungama described it as “completely natural”: “The young man holds the role with dexterity. There is only one word to describe its performance - excellent! ” [2] However, despite the approval of critics, the film could not make a good box office [3] .
Neil’s first release in 2009 was the science-fiction thriller “Stop, Moment!” Paired with Bipasha Basu , where he played a photographer who inherited a camera (pictures of which predict the future) from his grandfather, a scientist. The film crashed at the box office and with critics, and Neal's game received mixed reviews.
The next time he appeared in the dramatic action movie Kabir Khan "New York" along with John Abraham , Katrina Kaif and Irfan Khan . Examining the aftermath of the September 11 events , the film was critically and commercially successful, earning 617.5 million rupees around the world. [4] His performance of the role earned him praise from critics and a nomination for the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor [5] . Subhash Jah of Times of India wrote: “Neil, as a sophomore with stars and stripes in his eyes, is quite convincing, trustworthy and supportive of two central performers” [6] .
His last film this year was Locked Up by Madhur Bhandarkar , a drama revolving around the brutal reality faced by prisoners in Indian prisons. Some overly explicit scenes of the film for India caused controversy [7] , and some of them were deleted [8] . The film was not successful at the box office [9] , but Neil received critical acclaim [10] . Taran Adarsh wrote: “Not only did Neil Nitin Mukesh present his highest quality work to date, but this work will easily rank among the best this year. He conveys the touching and helplessness that the character requires, with amazing understanding. He deserves praise for his extraordinary performance. ” [11]
In 2010, Neil played the main role in the romantic drama of Pradeep Sarkar “Hit and Fly!” paired with Deepika Padukone . Despite the fact that the film received mixed reviews, its performance as a fighter was praised by critics [12] . According to Sify's Sonia Chopra, his “underrated acting style perfectly complements the character's sketch” [13] . Blessy Cettiar of Daily News and Analysis noted: “He looks great in every frame and performs [the character's] violent behavior in a big way” [14] . “Hit and Fly!” Had moderate commercial success with revenue of Rs 305 million [15] . In the same year, Neil played in the dramatic thriller Sudhira Mishra "What will happen to you, Johnny?" In April 2010, she was also appointed brand ambassador for one of the country's leading clothing brands - Oxemberg [16] .
The following year, Neil starred in the black comedy Vishal Bhardwaj "Seven husbands" where Priyanka Chopra played the role of a woman killing her seven husbands in an effort to find true love. The actor played the first husband of the heroine of Major Edwin Rodriguez, an arrogant and possessive military officer who lost his leg in Operation Blue Star in 1984. The film was first shown at the 61st Berlin Film Festival [17] . The picture was a commercial failure, received mixed reactions from critics, but Neal’s game received praise. Nihat Kazmi wrote that he “excelled as a beast” [18] .
In 2012, Neil starred in The Players of Abbas and Mastan Burmavalla as part of an ensemble of actors including Sonam Kapoor , Abhishek Bachchan , Bobby Deol and Bipasha Basu. The picture was a remake of the 2003 Hollywood movie " Italian Robbery " [19] . The film failed at the box office [20] and received (like Neal's play) mostly negative reviews from critics. Subhash Jah said that he “brings a mid-formidable tone to villainy” [21] , and according to Sukanya Verma from Rediff.com, Neil “mistook the villain for being frivolous, which resulted in a truly fake role playing” [22] .
In 2013, he took part in three films, but all of them failed at the box office [23] . His first release was the dramatic action movie Bejoy Nambiar "David" where he played a gangster whose boss controls the Asian community in London in the 1970s. The film received mixed reviews, but Neal's play was well received by critics. [24] Writing for The Times of India , Madhurita Mukherjee described her as “restrained and powerful.” [25] The next time he appeared in tandem with Sonal Chauhan in the horror film "3G - the connection that kills." Filmed in Fiji , the film tells the story of how a couple encounters supernatural phenomena when they buy a 3G- enabled phone [26] . The film was not successful with critics [27] . In a review for Rediff.com, Ankur Pathak said that Neil was “super-aggressive” and added that his “body language is constantly constrained” [28] . Neil also appeared in the Shortcut Romeo crime thriller directed by Susi Ganesan with Amisha Patel and Puja Gupta. The picture came out in a limited edition and became a major failure [29] [30] . On his role as Madhurita Mukherjee, she said: “Neil plays beautifully as always, he looks good (he needs to make his physical details less vivid for such roles) and proves that actors like him need better scripts to confirm their true potential” [31] .
In early 2014, Neil completed filming in two films: the romantic drama Ishqeria of Prerna Wadhavan paired with Ritchie Chadda [32] and the thriller Dussehra Manisha Vatsalya, in which Neil played the role of “meeting specialist” (see Encounter killings by police ) paired with Tina Desai [33] . He also played the villain and independently voiced his character in the Tamil film “ Dagger ” directed by A. R. Murugados [34] . The picture was the most successful in his career, having collected over 100 crore (1 billion rupees) at the box office in 12 days [35] . In 2015, the family drama Suraj Bardzhatia was released Prem Ratan Dhan Payo , where he played the brother of the hero Salman Khan , obsessed with revenge [36] .
In 2016, Neil played the role of the villain Wazir in the film “The Departure Game” . In 2017, he played Indira Gandhi Sanjay's son in the film Indu Sarkar and the antagonist businessman in Golmaal Again , which was a commercial success. Neal is currently starring in the Firrkie film, as well as in the multilingual project Saaho , where he is assigned the role of the main villain.
Social Activities
In 2009, Neil founded an NGO to support women in need, providing them with food, shelter and training so that they could provide for themselves. The charity project was named after his grandmother, Saral Devi. The actor said: “I read about women - oppressed, exploited by men and other family members. They are sold as goods, and are forced into prostitution. It always hurts me to hear all this, and, deep down, I think that I would like to create an organization to support such women ” [37] . In 2012, he joined Volkswagen in support of the Think Blue environmental campaign, which began raising awareness of water scarcity and other pressing environmental issues [38] .
