History
On July 18, 1911, the Holy See established the territorial prelature of Santissima-Conceisan do Araguaia, separating it from the archdiocese of Belém do Para.
On December 20, 1962, the department of territorial prelature was transferred to the city of Maraba, and the territorial prelature of Santissima-Conceisan do Araguaia was renamed the territorial prelature of Maraba (today - the Diocese of Maraba ).
On March 27, 1976, Pope Paul VI issued the bull Ne diutius , which restored the territorial prelature of Santissima-Conceisan do Araguaia.
On October 16, 1979, Pope John Paul II issued the bull Cum Praelaturae , which transformed the territorial prelature of Santissima-Conceisan do Araguaia into a diocese.
