Ernest Viktorovich Ivanter (born November 15, 1935 , Moscow ) is a Soviet and Russian zoologist and ecologist, doctor of biological sciences, professor , corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences , full member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences , vice president of Theriological Society [1] .

Biography
The son of the journalist and editor Viktor Semenovich Ivanter (1904-2000) and the children's librarian Irina Filippovna Ryss (1907-1994). In 1955 he graduated from the hunting department of the Moscow Fur and Fur Institute [3] .
In 1958 he graduated with honors from the Faculty of Zootechnics of the Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K. A. Timiryazev [4] , and in the same post-graduate course at the Department of Zoology and Darwinism.
In 1958-1960 he worked as a zoologist in the Kivach Nature Reserve , in 1960-1963 he was a junior researcher in the zoology laboratory of the Institute of Biology of the Karelian Scientific Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences .
In 1965 he defended his dissertation at the Moscow Art Academy, “The Fauna of Hunting Animals of Karelia, its Reconstruction and Use” (supervisor: B. A. Kuznetsov) [5] ).
In 1965 he began working at the Department of Zoology and Darwinism at Petrozavodsk State University .
In 1975 he defended his doctoral dissertation "Population ecology of small mammals of the taiga of the North-West of the USSR" at the Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology of the Ural Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences [3] .
In 1986 he became the head of the Department of Zoology and Ecology, in 1987 he was elected Dean of the Faculty of Biology of Petrozavodsk State University [6] .
Since 2000 - Dean of the Faculty of Ecology and Biology of Petrozavodsk State University [7] .
Honorary Member of the Theriological Society of Finland and Zoological Societies of the USA, Germany, Poland. Member of the editorial board of the Zoological Journal and the journal Ecology .

The author of more than 400 publications, including 22 monographs, 12 study guides and textbooks, 14 popular science books on the animal kingdom and nature of the Russian North.
