Between 1868 and 1881 he was a member of the Federalist Democratic Republican Party (PRDF), united around the Club of Federalists (1868-1869), published the Spanish-language newspaper El Estado Catalán (Catalan State) in 1869-1870 and 1873 years.

In 1879, he founded the first Catalan-language newspaper Diari Català (Catalan Diary).

In 1880 he became the organizer of the First Catalan Congress ( Cat. Primer Congrés Catalanista ) [3] , at which he intended to unite the forces that advocated the transformation of Spain into a federal republic with representatives of the literary movement in defense of the Catalan language .

In 1882, he initiated the creation of the “Catalan Center” [3] - an organization created to protect the cultural and economic interests of Catalonia. In 1883 he organized the Second Catalan Congress.

In 1885, Valenti Almiral wrote the “Petition for the Protection of the Moral and Material Interests of Catalonia” - an appeal from the intelligentsia and the bourgeoisie of Catalonia to King Alfonso XII of Spain demanding that certain rights of the Catalans be restored. The “petition for protection” is considered the first modern manifestation of the Catalan national movement in the legal field of Spain.

In 1886, his work “Catalanism” ( Cat. Lo catalanisme ) was published, in which the principles of Catalan nationalism were systematized.
