Botanical Description
Species of Stilbaceae are shrubs and shrubs , some are herbaceous plants that resemble the representatives of the Heather family ( Ericaceae ). Branches, as a rule, are densely covered with whorls of leathery, pubescent leaves . Flowers in capitate inflorescences or are located singly at the ends of shoots. The flowers are hermaphroditic, five-membered, zygomorphic, pollinated by insects ( entomophilous ). Five sepals are green, tubular or bell-shaped. Four or five petals can form a two - lipped nimbus or have the same length and shape. Four to five fertile stamens are arranged in a simple circle; they can be equal or unequal in length. Above the stamens are two ovaries . The fruit is a box .
Range
Representatives of the family have a paleotropic distribution: they are common in Africa , Madagascar , the Mascaren Islands and the Arabian Peninsula .
