History
The Diocese of Syros and Milos was formed in the 13th century. In 1627, there were 67 Catholic churches on the island of Syros, most of the inhabitants of the island were Catholics. After the island became part of the Ottoman Empire, the number of Catholics decreased. In 1746, about 2 thousand Catholics lived here. In 2001, Catholics made up 47% of the inhabitants of the island.
