Trent Kowalik ( born Trent Kowalik ; born February 22, 1995 , Bellmors, Nassau , New York , USA ) is an American dancer, actor and singer. Winner of the Tony Awards in the nomination “ Best Leading in a Musical ”, as well as a special prize from the External Society of Critics for starring in the musical Billy Elliot the Musical .

Biography

Trent Kovalik was born on February 22, 1995 in the village of Bellmors, Nassau County, New York, USA . At the age of three, he began teaching dance at the Dorothy's School of Dance . At the age of four, he began to take lessons in Irish dancing . At the age of six he took part in the Open Championship ( Eng. Open Championship ), performed with the dance school Inishfree School of Irish Dance . In April 2006, at the age of 11, he won the World Championship in Irish Dance ( Irish Oireachtas Rince na Cruinne ), held in Belfast , Northern Ireland , at a young age group [1] . Kowalik has received several national awards from Scotland, England and Ireland. He continues to engage in ballet, step , jazz and lyrical dance [2] . He has participated in many television shows such as Inside the NFL and Good Morning America .

Kovalik is currently continuing to study ballet at The Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School , the pre-professional division of the American Ballet Theater .

Billy Elliot the Musical

On December 17, 2007, Trent Kowalik made his debut in the original London production of the musical Billy Elliot the Musical , as one of the leading actors - the role of Billy Elliot [3] [4] . The musical was staged at the Victoria Palace Theater in the West End . Kovalik's last performance in London was on June 7, 2008.

In a press release on April 22, 2008, it was announced that Trent Kovalik, along with Cyril Kulish and David Alvarez, would enter the premiere of the Broadway production as the lead actor. Trent's first performance took place on October 8, 2008 at the Imperial Theater . The last performance was on March 7, 2010 [5] [6] .

On June 7, 2009, Kovalik, as well as Cyril Kulish and David Alvarez, became the winner of the Tony Awards in the nomination “ Best Leading Performance in a Musical ”. Kovalik was the youngest winner of the award in this category for the entire history of the ceremony. In addition, 2009 was the first year when the award was presented immediately to three actors simultaneously.
At the ceremony, the musical was presented by the choreographic part of the episode Electricity ( Russian Electricity ) performed by Cyril Kulish accompanied by Sir Elton John , as well as the episode Angry Dance ( Russian Angry Dance ) performed by Trent Kowalik. The musical became a nominee in fifteen positions and became a laureate in ten of them. Including " Best Musical of the Year " [7] [8] .

In the same year, Kovalik won a special prize for outstanding achievements from the External Critics Society ( Outer Critics Circle Award ) [9] .
