Biography
Armandu Umbertu da Gama Oshoa was born on July 28, 1877 in the city of Braganca of the eponymous district of the northern province of Traz-u-Montis and Altu-Douro (now the Altu-Traz-u- Montis subregion) in the family of Judge Francisco António Oshôa ( port. Francisco António Ochôa , 03/04/1839 - 12/22/1912) and Adelaide Augusta Coelho de Abreu Menezes Teixeira de Sousa Gedes da Gama ( port Adelaide Augusta Coelho de Abreu de Meneses Teixeira de Sousa Guedes da Gama , 02.02.1854 - 28.11.1888) [1] . He graduated from the Naval Academy and since 1898 served as an officer of the Portuguese Navy. In 1901 he was promoted to alferi (warrant officer). After the revolution of 1910, he supported the presidential Party of Unionists and Republicans and in 1915-1917 he was a deputy of the National Assembly from this party [2] . He took part in the colonial campaigns and military operations of the First World War [3] .
Alfred Umbert Gama Oshoa became one of the leaders of the military coup on May 28, 1926, known as the National Revolution. From the first days of his speech, he became part of the Revolutionary Revolutionary Jose Mendes Cabezadash in Lisbon [4] . On June 1, after a meeting of leaders of the movement in Coimbra, Gama Oshoa joined the First Triumvirate and also took up the posts of Minister of Foreign Affairs and Minister of Public Education [2] . However, finding Armandu Gama Oshoa at the heights of power was short-lived. Three days later, at a new meeting in Sacaven, at the insistence of General Manuel Gomes da Costa, Gama Oshoa was removed from the triumvirate and replaced by General Oscar Carmona , who was behind the 4th division of the Portuguese army. During the reign of the Second Triumvirate, he briefly replaced Gomes da Costa as Minister of the Colonies, until he was dismissed along with Carmona and António Claru after a conflict around a religious decree [5] . Soon expelled from the government, Gama Oshoa was appointed ambassador to France and never returned to his homeland [3] .
Armandu Umberto da Gama Oshoa died on June 9, 1941 in Vichy , France [1] [2] .
