Biography
He began to study painting in 1857 at the Krakow Academy of Fine Arts . A student of Vladislav Luzhkevich and Felix Shinalevsky . He graduated from the academy in 1866.
A break in studies is associated with the participation of A. Kozakevich in the Polish uprising of 1863 . A participant in the January events was captured by Russian troops. After a short stay in prison, he returned to the Academy in Krakow , but then left for Vienna , where he continued his studies at the capital's Academy of Fine Arts .
Thanks to the imperial scholarship he received in 1871, A. Kozakevich continued to improve his skills in Munich , where his work brought success. There he spent the next 30 years of his life, often visiting Poland.
Returning to his homeland, in 1900-1905 he lived and worked in Warsaw. The paintings created in the Warsaw period were not successful with critics and the public. Abandoned and forgotten, A. Kozakevich died in need of Szczawnica .
Creativity
During his studies, the main theme of his work was events related to the Polish uprising of 1863. In Munich, he painted scenes from the life of Polish peasants. He created a number of paintings with children's plots, as well as illustrations for Mitskevich ’s poem “ Pan Tadeusz ”.
A. Kozakevich’s creative heritage contains canvases on a historical theme, portraits , landscapes , a series of genre paintings on a folklore theme, as well as about the life of Jews and Gypsies in Poland.
