History
Coffee trees were introduced by the French and from 1857 began to grow on the territory of Vietnam. [3] And the first plantations appeared in 1888 in a province called Nge An. [2] [3] But subsequently, the bulk of the coffee began to grow and gather on the Tai Nguyen Plateau, [2] and then in the Central Mountain Region. [3]
Cultivation and production
Coffee plantations in Vietnam occupy 506 thousand hectares , and the yield is approximately 2-2.5 tons per hectare. The annual harvest is about 1 million tons per year. At the same time only 10 thousand tons are processed. [2]
Export
Vietnam ranks second in the production and export of coffee and first in the export of Robusta. 95% of all coffee collected is exported. Vietnamese coffee is exported to 80 countries. The main importer of coffee is Germany , 240 thousand tons of coffee are exported there annually. [2]
The International Coffee Organization reported that in the first half of 2012, Vietnam surpassed Brazil by 13% in terms of export volumes of coffee beans [4] .
