Biography
Born in a Polish-Austrian family. Member of the First World War. For four years he fought at the front in the ranks of the Austrian army, rising to the rank of lieutenant . After the war, until 1921, he served as an infantry officer in the Polish Army. Then he worked as an official. He studied in a private film school. In 1925 he made his debut in the film “ Vampires of Warsaw. The secret of the taxi number 1051 "and since then began to appear frequently on the screens of Poland. He played about forty movie roles. At the same time he appeared in a revue in small theaters in Warsaw. Due to external data and exceptional physical form, preserved from the time of military service, he played, mostly elegant handsome men, aristocrats and military men.
In 1927, he signed a contract with the Vienna film studio Sascha-Filmstudios AG and was filmed in Austrian films for 2 years. Then he moved to Germany, where Marlene Dietrich and Lilian Harvey were a partner.
In the early 1930s, he passed an acting exam in Poland, played and sang on the stages of musical theaters and revues in Warsaw. Became less likely to act in films, mainly in supporting roles, focusing on the stage .
During the Second World War, in the occupied capital of Poland, the Nazis accepted an offer to organize " Polish theater life " in Warsaw.
Being a German citizen ( Volksdeutsche ) became the director of “Theater der Stadt Warschau” and was granted a concession to the Comedy Theater and the Nur für Deutsche cinema (Only for Germans) “Helgoland”.
Being before the outbreak of war by a German agent, during the occupation he became a Gestapo informant. Contributed to the arrest of a number of former partners in the theater and cinema, in particular, the actress Khanka Ordonuvna .
Execution and retaliation
By decision of the underground Union of Armed Struggle on March 7, 1941, he was shot dead by a fighting group of three Polish militants - at 7.10 am Bogogda Rogolinsky (call sign “Shari” (Szary) - gray) and Roman Rozmilovsky (call sign “Zawada” - hindrance) called his apartment, posing as postmen. They were insured by Victor Klimaszewski (the call sign “Small” (Mały) is small). Rozmilovsky and Rogolinsky asked Sym to introduce himself, after which one of them shot at him.
In response, the Germans arrested 118 hostages, of whom 21 people were shot on March 11.
