Scales of the head with a bluish sheen. The proboscis is distinctly longer than the front hips. Larvae are usually found in leaf axils and bracts. also known as predators of Wyeomyia mosquito larvae. Arboviruses have been found in the species Johnbelkinia ulopus in Trinidad and Colombia, which makes it possible to consider representatives of Johnbelkinia as potential carriers of pathogenic infections for humans. Also known as egg carriers of the nasopharyngeal gadfly Dermatobia hominis ( Oestridae ) [2] [3] [4] .

Relations with other members of the tribe Sabethini remain unclear, closest to the genera Shannoniana , Runchomyia and Trichoprosopon [4] .
