History

The railway station square is one of the oldest squares of the city: its formation dates back to the 1860s - the time of construction of the Tiraspol-Odessa railway line. In 1867, traffic was opened and the building of the railway station was built. At the beginning of the 20th century, Russian Emperor Nicholas II, during his visit to Tiraspol [2], together with Tsarevich Alexei, received reports from city and county officials on Privokzalnaya Square, after which he headed for Chisinau [3] . On the day of the centenary of the visit of Nicholas II, July 13, 2013, a theatrical historical reconstruction of this event took place on Privokzalnaya Square [4] .

During the Great Patriotic War, the Station Square and the station building suffered greatly: during the retreat of the German troops in 1944, the station building was blown up. In the 1950s, the building was rebuilt and inscribed in the landscape of the renovated square.

In September 1991, the Transdniestrian women's strike movement was born on Privokzalnaya Square, as evidenced by a plaque on the station building: Transnistrian women blocked the movement of trains through Tiraspol for a month in protest against the arrest by the Moldovan authorities of then-President of Transnistria I. N. Smirnov .
