Biography
Walter Huseman grew up in Berlin, where his family moved. After school, he mastered the profession of tinsmith. In 1924, the Communist Youth League in Berlin Pankov . In 1928 he joined the Communist Party of Germany . In 1929 he headed the anti-fascist young guard in Berlin and Brandenburg. From 1930 to 1933, he was a volunteer and editor of the press organs of the Communist Party in Berlin ( Die Rote Fahne ), Essen ( Ruhr-Echo ) and Mannheim ( Mannheimer Arbeiterzeitung ).
After the Nazis closed their editions in 1933, Walter Huzeman joined the resistance movement in Berlin. In late November 1936, he and his father were arrested. Without trial, both were sent to the Sachsenhausen concentration camp, in 1937 he was transferred to the Buchenwald concentration camp. After his release in September 1938, he again worked as a tinsmith. Through his wife Martha, he joined the Harro Schulz-Boysen and Arvid Harnack groups.
September 19, 1942 was arrested by the Gestapo in the workplace. On January 26, 1943, the Imperial Military Tribunal sentenced him to death. On May 13, 1943, the sentence was carried out in Plötzensee prison in Berlin.
Memory
In the GDR, many public buildings and streets bore his name (now some of them have returned historical names).
