History

The construction of a sports palace with artificial ice began in 1983 as part of the reconstruction of the open small arena of the Spartak stadium (later renamed the Geologist ). The construction was carried out by SMU-17 of the Tyumenstroy trust, the customer was the Tyumen Regional Council of the VFFSO of trade unions. During the construction process, the deadlines for the delivery of the arena by the contractor were constantly postponed: it was originally supposed to be completed in the fourth quarter of 1987, and later the opening dates were postponed until the spring of 1988 . In particular, SMU-17 and the city executive committee promised to hand over the facility on the eve of the city's day ( July 24, 1988 ). Trial home games of Rubin took place in January 1988, before the official commissioning of the facility, and since finishing work continued at that time, the matches were held without spectators. In the same format, the first matches were held on an ongoing basis (since October 1988).

November 30, 1988, the opening of the Sports Palace. On the same day, the USSR hockey championship match between Rubin and Metallurg took place . The opening of the sports palace allowed the Rubin hockey club to perform in Tyumen on an ongoing basis (previously, Rubin spent all his home games in Sverdlovsk , except in the winter, when the club played in the open area of the Yunost stadium) [1] . Since 1989, it has become possible to broadcast live television in the arena.

In 2017, plans to modernize the arena were announced, in particular, it is planned to increase the capacity of the arena to 7000. The management of HC Rubin decided to abandon the construction of a new arena due to the high cost of the project. [2]
