Biography
Born in a military family. In 1949 he entered the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at Kiev University , where he graduated in 1954. As a fourth-year student, he received the recommendation of A. N. Kolmogorov to graduate school of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics of Moscow State University (the only one recommended of all students in the course). In high school, he studied under the direction of G. E. Shilov . In his student work (jointly with A. V. Skorokhod), he gave a geometric proof of the theorem of N. K. Bari on the basis property of an orthonormal system in a Hilbert space that is quadratically close to an orthonormal basis.
In 1954 he moved to Moscow, became a graduate student of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics under the scientific supervision of G. E. Shilov. At this time, the group of G.E. Shilov developed questions of the theory of partial differential equations, mainly with constant coefficients, in the framework of the theory of generalized functions , which I.M. Gelfand was also actively involved in. A. G. Kostyuchenko proved the existence of solutions to the Cauchy problem in classes of functions for which Gelfand and Shilov had previously established the uniqueness of the solution.
Subsequently, I. M. Gelfand was involved in the development of the theory of expansions in eigenfunctions of common self-adjoint operators.
"On the eigenfunctions of self-adjoint operators." The dissertation for the degree of candidate of physical and mathematical sciences, Moscow State University, M., 1957.
"On some spectral properties of differential operators." The dissertation for the degree of Doctor of Physics and Mathematics, Moscow State University, Moscow, 1966. Professor of the Department of Theory of Functions and Functional Analysis of the Mechanics and Mathematics Faculty of Moscow State University (1967).
He gave (with co-authors) a solution to the problem of S. L. Sobolev on the stability of rotation of a top with a cavity filled with a viscous fluid.
Member of the Board of the Moscow Mathematical Society .
Emeritus Professor of Moscow University (1999) [1] . Honorary Doctor of the Bashkir State University (2008) [2] .
Laureate of the Lomonosov Prize 1 degree (2001)
He created a scientific school, prepared 58 candidates of sciences, more than 20 of them received doctoral degrees: R. S. Ismagilov, V. A. Sadovnichy, M. M. Gehtman, M. O. Otelbaev , K. Kh. Boymatov, G. V Radzievsky, A. G. Sergeev, Ya. T. Sultanaev, G. A. Isaev (Isakhanly), B. A. Iskenderov, M. B. Orazov, A. A. Shkalikov, A. M. Gomilko, O. Veliev, E. D. Nursultanov, A. K. Fragela, V. V. Vlasov, S. A. Stepin.
Among the students of Professor A. G. Kostyuchenko are the rector of Moscow State University, Academician V. A. Sadovnichy and the Founder, founding rector and now chairman of the board of trustees of Khazar University, Baku, Azerbaijan - professor Isakhanli, Hamlet Abdullah oglu .
Author and co-author of 77 scientific papers. 2001 Lomonosov Prize Laureate
Member of the Editorial Board of the journal "Functional Analysis and Its Applications" from the day it was founded. Member of the Editorial Board of the journal Uspekhi Matematicheskikh Nauk
He died after a serious and prolonged illness.
