Description

Occur in the tropics of the Old World ( Africa , Madagascar , Southeast Asia ). Specialized in feeding other species of ants ( myrmecophagy ). Small narrow ants (5-7 mm). In the stalk 1 segment ( petiol ), but the first segment of the abdomen is sharply separated by constriction from the rest, resembling the form of the second segment of the stalk (postpetiol) of some other ants ( Myrmicinae ). The workers tendrils are 11-segmented and have ocells. Formula of palpi: 6.4 or 5.3 (the number of segments of the mandibular and mandibular palpi). The eyes are large (the ratio of the length of the eye to the width of the head, EL / HW = 0.30-0.53), the scapus is short (the ratio of the length of the scape to the width of the head, SI = 33-56). Mostly woody species (occasionally workers forage on the ground) [2] .
