History

The construction of the plant was started in 1947, on November 12, 1948, the enterprise was put into partial operation as plant No. 870 of the Ministry of Shipbuilding Industry. By the beginning of 1950, a hull workshop, several slipways and a number of other structures were commissioned. By the beginning of the 60s, the shipyard was completed. In 1965, it received the name Vyborg Shipyard.

The shipyard began its production activity with the release of non-self-propelled barges of the SB-150 project. In 1953, the first self-propelled barges were commissioned. [2] [3] [4] In the second half of the 1950s, several landing ships of projects 188 and 189 were built. [5] [6] [7] From the beginning of the 1960s to the beginning of the 80s, the shipyard has been producing timber trucks in series projects 596, 596M, 1574, 1590P, dry cargo ships of project 1586, container ships of projects 1590K and 15903, tankers of projects 577 and 1541, as well as a number of special vessels. [8] [9] [10] [11] [12] Since the late 1970s, the shipyard began producing floating drilling platforms. [13]

1990s

In the mid-90s, a series of timber carriers of the project 15750 was manufactured. At the end of the 90s, it upgraded the drilling platform to operate as the Sea Launch floating spaceport.

2000s

In the early 2000s, the plant built a series of trawlers, supply vessels for offshore platforms and tankers. Part of the work is underway on the construction of the Polar Star and Northern Lights semi-submersible drilling platforms .

Shtokman field

On August 16, 2007, Valery Golubev, Gazprom’s deputy chairman of the board (tender customer), announced that the plant won the tender for the construction of drilling rigs for the development of the Shtokman field . Estimated project cost: 59 billion rubles. [14] . In this regard, Vyksa Shipyard lobbied for the construction of a large-capacity shipyard near Primorsk in the Gulf of Finland . The shipyard was supposed to produce tankers , gas carriers and other watercraft for the development of Arctic deposits. [15]

However, the development of the Shtokman field was frozen. The super shipyard project did not go into the implementation phase. The lower foundations for the Northern Lights and the North Star drilling rigs were built, which should be used in the development of Far Eastern projects ( Sakhalin shelf ). [16] .

2010s

Icebreakers

In 2012-2015, the shipyard is building 3 icebreakers of project 21900M , for which it was necessary to build a floating dock . Since 2015, two more icebreakers have been built under the Aker Arc 130A project and one under the Aker Arc 124. project. [17] [18]

Trawlers

In 2017, the execution of orders for a series of trawlers of the KMT01 (ST-118L) and KMT02 (ST-116XL) projects was launched. [19] Projects developed by Skipsteknisk AS and the Marine Engineering Bureau .

Owners and management

In 1993, the plant was corporatized and received the name Open Joint-Stock Company Vyborg Shipbuilding Plant.

In 1997, the Norwegian shipbuilding company Kvaerner acquired 75.6% of the Vyksa Shipyard. The plant gets the name Open Joint Stock Company Kverner-Vyborg Shipyard. In 1998, Kvaerner decided to sell its shipbuilding assets worldwide. In 2000, she sold her entire block of shares to the Aco Bars group, and the plant becomes the open joint-stock company Vyborg Shipbuilding Plant. In 2007, Ako Bars sold its stake to individuals close to the shareholders of Rossiya Bank. [20] [21]

In May 2012, a controlling stake in the plant (79%) was transferred to the United Shipbuilding Corporation . In 2015, the plant was renamed into the public joint-stock company Vyborg Shipbuilding Plant.

General Director - Alexander Solovyov [22] .

Activities

The plant specializes in the construction of offshore platforms and drilling rigs for the development of offshore reserves [23] , small and medium tonnage vessels. The company also produces metal structures.

The headcount is over 1.7 thousand people. Revenues in 2006 amounted to 1.7 billion rubles. (in 2005 - 2.8 billion rubles), net profit - 142 million rubles. (in 2005 - a loss of 134 million rubles) [20] .

Interesting Facts

  • The refinery twice underwent refurbishment of the Odyssey offshore oil production platform, which later became the launch platform for the Sea Launch project.
  • The plant sponsored the Russian race car driver Vitaly Petrov in the Renault Formula 1 team at the final five races of the 2010 season [24] [25] .
  • In 2000-2002, a semi-submersible oil platform was built at the Vyborg shipyard for the Norwegian oil company Moss Maritime - now it operates on the basis of SBX (English Sea-Based X-band radar , sea-based X-band radar ), towed surface radar intended for placement in the open ocean. Created and operated by the US Department of Defense missile defense program, it is part of the GMD system. For 2014 there is a single copy (SBX-1, registration number IMO 8765412 ), which is deployed in the Pacific Ocean.
  • On November 24, 2016, a 22 MW diesel-electric icebreaking support vessel “ Alexander Sannikov ” [26] , commissioned by Gazpromneft Novy Port LLC to launch at the Arctic terminal of the Novoportovskoye field located in the west of the Gulf of Ob on the Yamal Peninsula, was launched. The ship was built according to the latest design for the Icebreaker8 ice class, which provides ice penetration of up to 2 meters and significant maneuverability with relatively little draft. The contours of the Alexander Sannikov corps are unusual for traditional icebreaking schemes. This vessel does not crush ice, but cuts and mills it. The vessel has two azimuthal columns in the stern and one in the bow, which ensures a cleaner channel and cleaner water under the icebreaker itself, which, in turn, increases ice penetration. “Alexander Sannikov” is an ice-breaker of multifunctional type, which can carry out rescue operations, ensure fire and environmental safety. It is designed for continuous operation at temperatures up to −50 C.
