Harriet Arbuthnot ( born Harriet Arbuthnot ; September 10, 1793 - August 2, 1834) is one of the first English memoirists of the 19th century, a social and political observer, a member of the Tory party. In the 1820s, she was the “closest friend woman” of the hero Waterloo and the British Prime Minister, 1st Duke of Wellington . She conducted long correspondence and conversations with the Duke, the results of which were recorded in her diary, which is therefore widely used in all authoritative biographies of the Duke of Wellington.

Biography
Born into a family of a provincial British aristocracy and married to a politician and member of parliament, she had great opportunities to get to know all the key figures of the Regency and the late Napoleonic era. Recording her meetings and conversations often verbatim, she became "Mrs. Arbuthnot", quoted in many biographies and stories of that era. Her observations and memories of the life of the English nobility are not limited to people, but they also document politics, great events and everyday life with equal attention to detail, which provides historians with a clear picture of the events described. Her diaries were published in 1950 as Mrs. Arbuthnot Magazine.
