Career
Player Career
After playing for FC Bai , Zhu Guanghu moved to FC Shanghai , from where he was involved in matches of the national team B, but he was never considered a top-level player.
Coach Career
After completing his career, he remained at the Shanghai Football Club, where he coached the youth team. He spent four years at the coaching staff of Shanghai. He gained fame after coming to the post of coach of the youth team of Shenzhen Jianlibiao , especially when he got the opportunity to train with the team in Brazil , from where he returned in 1998 . Also in the team appeared the young “stars” of the Chinese team - Li Jinyu and Li Te . Later, Zhu got the opportunity to become assistant coach of the national team of the PRC , and the coach was an English specialist Bob Houghton . The team could not get to the Olympics, Hafton was fired, and the famous Serbian coach Bora Milutinovic took a vacant post. Zhu also left the national team and took over the Shenzhen Jianlibao team.
On March 9, 2005, the Chinese Football Association named Zhu Guanghu as the head coach of the national team; earlier this post was held by Dutch specialist Ari Khan , who was unable to enter the final part of the 2006 World Cup with the Chinese national team. The reason for the invitation to the national team was the success in the national Super League , where Zhu won the league title with Shenzhen Jianlibao. The undoubted advantages of a domestic specialist were considered lower costs (compared with a foreign trainer) for the salary of a specialist and the absence of a language barrier. FIFA President Sepp Blatter also spoke positively about the new coach. The strategic objective for the near future was as follows: the selection of talented players and the creation of a new national team. The tactical task was the output of the national team at the 2010 World Cup in South Africa .
In 2005, under the leadership of Zhu, the team won the East Asian Championship title, beating the DPRK and tied twice with Japan and South Korea . The title itself meant little, but gave the team confidence in their abilities. In addition, it was the first title of the PRC national team in the framework of the championships at the level of national teams. Zhu Guanghu team was criticized for the over-defensive style of play, fans called for the resignation of the coach after the PRC team lost several positions in the ranking of the FIFA national teams , as well as for several failed performances. On March 18, 2007, after the end of one of the Super League matches Zhu attended, fans attacked his car. The coach himself was not injured, and the fans attacked the referee of the match, who was nearby at that time.
In 2007, at the Asian Football Cup, the Chinese team in the last match of the group tournament arranged a draw with the national team of Uzbekistan , however, the team conceded three goals from the standards and ended up in third place in the group tournament. For the first time in 27 years, the Chinese team did not leave the group, the coaches began to be actively criticized, and he soon resigned.
On August 5, it was announced that Zhu’s three-month talks with the Shenzhen team were over, and he would soon assume the duties of head coach of his most successful team, but on August 31, 2009, the coach signed a three-year contract with Shaanxi Chanba , where he replaced dismissed Cheng Yaodong .
Corruption Scandal
In April 2012, information appeared in the English-language segment of the Xinhua newspaper that one of the former officials of the Chinese Football Association, Xie Yalong, admitted receiving a bribe in the amount of 50 thousand yuan from Zhu Guanghu in 2006 for a place on the coaching bridge of the national team of China [1] [2] .
