Savings book

Savings Book of Sberbank of the USSR

Savings book - a security certifying the conclusion of a bank deposit agreement with a citizen and the deposit of funds into his account on a deposit.

The name and location of the bank must be indicated and certified by the bank in the savings book, and if the deposit is made to the branch, also to its corresponding branch, the account number for the deposit, as well as all the amounts of money credited to the account, all the amounts debited from account, and the balance of funds in the account at the time of presentation of the savings book to the bank.

Unless a different condition of the deposit is proved, the data on the deposit specified in the savings book are the basis for calculating the deposit between the bank and the depositor.

Issuance of a deposit, payment of interest on it and execution of orders of the depositor on the transfer of funds from the deposit account to other persons are carried out by the bank upon presentation of a savings book.

The average annual interest rate is much lower for deposits in a savings book than for other types of deposits. [one]

The restoration of rights to a lost bearer savings book is carried out in the manner prescribed for bearer securities.

In 2003, Sberbank introduced a new type of security - the Savings Certificate [2] . A savings certificate is a security that is issued to bearer. A savings certificate, like a deposit, is intended for the storage and augmentation of funds with a yield significantly higher than for deposits.

Using a Book

A bank employee issues a savings book when opening a bank account. In order to withdraw or deposit money into an account ( “to a book” ), it is necessary to present a passbook and an identity document to any branch of the bank. During the operation, the employee takes the book and prints on it on a special printer all operations with the deposit that have occurred since the last visit to the bank.
